چکیده
A transformation linking spherical multipole fields with generalized spheroidal multipole fields is derived. Applications including the inverse diffraction problem for spherically-scanned near field data for sources that due to conformal considerations are efficiently described using spheroidal (either oblate or prolate) volume support regions are discussed with the aid of numerical illustrations. Key-words: spherical multipole fields, spheroidal multipole fields, field transformation, near field scanning.

Electromagnetic Inverse Source Problem in the Spheroidal Geometry
INTRODUCTION Recently, we have investigated the classical inverse source problem of reconstructing an unknown radiating source from knowledge of the exterior field it generates, with emphasis on sources whose support is contained within a spheroidal volume which can be oblate or prolate [1]. This facilitates the source inversion treatment of a variety of interesting source shapes (elongated, fl...
متن کاملTunable Plasmonic Nanoparticles Based on Prolate Spheroids
Metallic nanoparticles can exhibit very large optical extinction in the visible spectrum due to localized surface plasmon resonance. Spherical plasmonic nanoparticles have been the subject of numerous studies in recent years due to the fact that the scattering response of spheres can be analytically evaluated using Mie theory. However a major disadvantage of metallic spherical nanoparticles is ...
متن کاملAnalytical description of transmembrane voltage induced by electric fields on spheroidal cells.
An analytical description of transmembrane voltage induced on spherical cells was determined in the 1950s, and the tools for numerical assessment of transmembrane voltage induced on spheroidal cells were developed in the 1970s. However, it has often been claimed that an analytical description is unattainable for spheroidal cells, while others have asserted that even if attainable, it does not b...
متن کاملSpherical tensor approach to multipole expansions. II. Magnetostatic interactions
The magnetic field due to a given current distribution, the interaction energy of a current distribution with an arbitrary external magnetic field, and the magnetostatic interaction energy between two current distributions are decomposed into multipolar components using spherical harmonic expansions. Diamagnetic interactions and the spin contributions to the multipole expansions are also discus...

Optical spectropolarimeters can be used to produce maps of the surface magnetic fields of stars and hence to determine how stellar magnetic fields vary with stellar mass, rotation rate, and evolutionary stage. In particular, we now can map the surface magnetic fields of forming solar-like stars, which are still contracting under gravity and are surrounded by a disk of gas and dust. Their large ...
